Communicating the Thoughts and Actions of the Early Quakers:Understanding and Interpreting the Swarthmore Manuscripts [with Dr. Richard C. Allen] (Brill, Forthcoming)

This book examines The Swarthmore Manuscripts, an eight-volume collection of over 1,400 letters, papers and accounts. The Manuscripts have played a significant part in work of scholars and others interested in the history of Dissent during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

They hold fascinating insights into the nature of letter writing in this period, the frenetic activities of the early Quakers (male and female), the opposition they faced on account of their attitudes towards magistracy and ministry, and the network that was created to accommodate their missionary work.
