About Me

Quite possibly the state of Delaware’s favourite historian and copywriter!

Hello and welcome!

Hi, I’m Dr. Erica Canela, public historian, copywriter, and editor. I am a native Delawarean who went to university in Texas, where I developed a true love of BBQ and history.

By a twist of fate and many sliding door moments, I am an early modern social historian, specialising in English Quaker history and the psychological trauma of the Civil Wars. I have a Ph.D from the University of Birmingham and have taught early modern English history in both university and non-academic settings.

I am an experienced and published writer skilled in writing across genres and for different audiences as well as a meticulous editor with a keen eye for semantic and grammatical accuracy and stylistic expression. As an American living in the UK for nearly 20 years, I also have a great understanding of localisation and audience needs.

Bringing history to life!

I am a dedicated to bringing British 17th century history to a much wider audience. A significant part of my academic training involved creating content for all audiences and making sure that content was effectively presented. With over two decades of academic and professional experience, I’ve had the pleasure of presenting at conferences on both sides of the Atlantic, creating content for podcasts, and working in an editorial capacity with incredibly talented authors.
